Here's a few photos of the house we moved into on Halloween, 1997. We started building in May 1995, so it only took two and half years of pretty much every evening and all weekends...there's so many things to do! Jeannie's dad was an enormous help, and even though we neither one REALLY knew what we were doing, between the two of us we bluffed our way through it. We did the entire thing ourselves with the exception of driving the backhoe for the septic system (thanks, Joe!) and wiring the meter can to the power pole (thanks, Mikey!). It's a wonderful feeling to sit on the porch and remember when there was just a pile of horse apples where the house is...and we're particularly proud that we're mortgage free and managed to not hate each other over the past couple of years. This is supposed to show the pine planking on the peaked ceiling, and is looking into the dining room from the living room. The skinny window (there're two of them) open into the kitchen.

Kitchen cabinets are cherry with pine planking for the door panels and inside trim. The pine kinda helps keep the 'country' feeling, and the cherry just makes all the colors come together. I think cherry is the best 'neutral' wood for furnishings...it'll go with anything, and it looks like a million bucks all by itself. The white tiles and blue dots were planned, but the pink grout was an experiment turned bad. The walls are a very light peach color, and that's what I was looking for in the grout. The pink grows on you, but it takes 3 or 4 months.
