El Papel


The paper is tagged yellow, chalk-filled paper. This paper is watermarked vertically MEX-MEX (Scott #300). The gum is very light to light ivory dull matte finish. Normal official notices claim that the paper of Series 1 was purchased in the United States of America and the paper of Series 2 was purchased in England, but chemical analysis disputes this. Elemental analysis by x-ray spectroscopy reveals that the papers of Series 1 and Series 2 are identical, coming from the same source, probably the same run of paper pulp. The only difference is the watermark.

Like the stamps of Series 1, there are three different varieties that can be distinguished by the degree and quality of the UV luminescence on the back, or gum side, of the stamp:

Type 1: weak bluish-white opaque appearance, mottled in intensity, image slightly visible
Type 2: uniform bright bluish-white opaque appearance, image invisible
Type 3: no response to darkish yellow appearance, image on front slightly visible

The perforations, either harrow (h) or comb (c), are noted below.

In 1979, the 14 perf. comb was printed in a run of 600,320. In 1980, the 14 perf. comb was printed in a run of 1,315,402. In 1981, the 14 perf. comb was printed again in a run of 277,684. Finally, in 1982, the 14 perf. comb was printed in a run of 62,410.

In 1979, the 11 perf. harrow was printed in run of 998,664. In 1981, the 11 perf. harrow was printed in a run of 319,595 planillas.

There was also at least one sheet with displaced perforations that resulted in imperforate pairs of the 80 centavo ganado during the perforating of 2.3i, the small hole 11 perf. There are both vertical and horizontal imperforate pairs.
