The paper is soft wove paper with chalk-filled surface. It was manufactuted in England with a weight of 85 gm / square meter. The paper has bright luminescense both front and back. The gum is dull white, semi-gloss PVA gum.

The paper and gum are quite similar in series 5 and 6: the weight of the paper and the gums are quite the same.

Differences immediately appear on the reverse of the stamp under flourescent light. Series 5 has a dark, dull appearance, while Series 6 has a brightness that is about the same as the front of the stamp. There are definitely shades to the paper. Some appears white, some appears more creamy.
