           SCENE ONE:

Queen Rosenbloom sitting on throne. Royal robes floating gently to the floor. Two servants, Tory and Lory, stand ready to attend her.

TORY How can we . . .

LORY: Ease your life,

TOGETHER: Oh grand exalted mistress?

QUEEN ROSENBLOOM: (Sigh) Oh dear. I am so bored.

TORY: We can . . .

LORY: Juggle.

(They rush out of room.)

QUEEN ROSENBLOOM:  Silly things. If only they knew that . . .

PRIME MINISTER RANDOLPH:  Your grace, may I suggest that you take a stroll in the garden. It is your birthday and all.

QUEEN ROSENBLOOM:  Yes. Another year of sitting on the throne. (Sighs again) You're right, Randolph. I will take a walk in the garden.
(Marches out of throne room deep into sunlight)

QUEEN ROSENBLOOM:   What a beautiful day. I should be happy but . . .

VOICES:  But what?

QUEEN:  Who said that? (Whirls around)

VOICE:   No, no. Over here (Out of bushes steps fawn)

QUEEN:   You can talk!

FAWN:    Of course. What is the matter?

QUEEN.    It is my birthday.

FAWN:    That is nothing to be sad about!

QUEEN:    I guess you are right, but somehow I feel like I am not getting enough out of life. I feel as if everything is plain and drab.

FAWN:    (Nodding) I think I understand. Come with me!

QUEEN:    Where are we going?

FAWN:    Do you trust me?

QUEEN:    (Hesitating) Yes.

FAWN:    Close your eyes.
                (Queen does so)

FAWN:   Good. Now open them.

QUEEN:   Where are we? (Looks around. Sees a door and points)
                What's in there?

FAWN:   Come on. I'll show you.

(Walks over to door) Open it.

QUEEN:   Okay. (Opens door and gasps) Why. it's my old playroom! Why, Mr. Elephant, how glad I
                  am to see you.

FAWN:    (Smiling) Feeling better?

QUEEN:   (Too busy playing with old toys to notice)

FAWN:   Ahem:

QUEEN:   Oh yes. It is always wonderful to see old friends. You know, just being here makes me feel like my life is worthwhile. I mean, I see me when I was young playing with silly        toys,  and now, me older still playing around, not really taking things seriously.

FAWN: (Smiles)  Yes, of course. That's why I brought you here.

QUEEN:   Let's get back to my Birthday Party.

          SCENE TWO:

Prime Minister Randolph running around frantically.

PRIME MINISTER:  Oh dear. Oh dear. Where could she be? The party is about to start. I hope . . .
                                    (Hears clapping)

VOICE IN CROWD:   The Queen. The Queen.

PRIME MINISTER:    Happy Birthday, Your Grace.

QUEEN:    Oh, but it is though, (Claps hands) Loyal subjects. I have something to tell you! Remember always your happiness and your past. And never let life pass you by.

CROWD:    Let's hear it for the Queen. Happy Birthday to you,  Happy. . .
