 How to Connect or Disconnect Your Phones
These drawings show you how to install or disconnect your telephones.
The first drawing shows standard wall sockets, or jacks, for modular
telephone cords. To install your phone, match the plug at the end of the cord
with
 the
jack, and insert. To disconnect your phone, squeeze the clip on the plug and
pull it out of the jack.
A jack for a wall-mounted telephone is shown in the drawing at left. To
connect your wall phone, match the holes in the back of the phone with the
rivets on the wall mounting. Push the phone lightly against the mounting and
slide it down into place. To disconnect, slide the phone up to lift it off the
rivets, then pull it away from the wall.
If your House or apartment has "hard wired" telephone outlets, you may be
able to save time and money on installations by changing them to modular
"plug-in" outlets yourself with a jack converter (right). Modular outlets let
you plug in or move your own telephones. For more information, call your service

Telephone Safety
The telephone is one of the safest appliances in your home or office. There are,
however, a few situations where a telephone user needs to be cautious.
The telephone should not be used while you are in the bathtub, shower or
pool. Immersion of the telephone or handset in water could cause electrical
shock.
You should avoid using a telephone during an electrical storm in your
immediate area; calls of an urgent nature should be brief. There is a remote
risk of a dangerous electrical shock from lightning when using the telephone
during a nearby electrical storm.
If you think you have found a gas leak, you should not use a telephone in the
vicinity of the leak until the leak is repaired. The telephone contains
electrical contacts that could generate a tiny spark when you lift the handset
and dial. While unlikely, it may be possible for this spark to trigger an
explosion if the gas concentration is high enough.
