We have two Bantam breeds, and three standard breeds all with different personalities, traits and purpose. We read about the Marans and were facinated with the fact that they laid a very dark Chocolate egg. After a false start with a batch of Marans that were found to be crosses we finally aqcuired the real thing....Marans originated in France and the one thing that sets them apart from all other chickens is the Chocolate colored egg that the hens lay. They are docile chickens, consistent layers and are said to be great moms.. |

The eggs to the left will give you an idea of the
difference in egg color. The darkest eggs are from our marans with the
kighter egg (back left is from our buff orphington and the white egg
is from our cochins

| We were looking for something similar to the Rhode Island Red in color. The Barnevelders originated in Holland and they are a very docile and friendly chicken that also lay a dark brown egg. It has been very difficult to get started with this breed as they have been hard to find. | |

We decided on the Buff Orphington because they are docile, good layers and sport a fair amount of meat. |

The Bantams we chose are the Cochin and the Millie Fleur, they were chosen because they are great moms and we liked them. They also provide us with a lot of eggs |
