Opportunities
CLASS membership is open to all who
are interested and support our purposes. If you would like to give
your support by volunteering, we invite you to participate in a
rewarding and fulfilling experience working with and for our
animals.
There are many opportunities
available to the volunteer, both at the shelter or directly related
to animal care, and in other areas.
Directly
Related to Animal Care:
-
FOSTER
HOMES: A foster home is
a temporary home (usually 2 to 6 weeks) for an animal before
adoption. These animals are too young, need socialization, or
are recovering from illness or injury, and need special
attention that prevents them from being adoptable at that time.
Foster homes are always needed.
-
KENNEL
WORK: General care and
maintenance of shelter animals, including feeding, cleaning,
disinfecting runs and cages, inspecting animals for possible
disease or injury.
-
SOCIALIZATION:
Petting cats or dogs, walking dogs, playing with the animals and
grooming.
-
GENERAL:
Volunteers are always needed to do everyday jobs around the
shelter. This can include: greeting visitors, answering
phones, preparing newspapers to be used in cages, assisting
potential adopters in viewing and more.
Whatever
time volunteers can give the shelter, for whatever task, whether at
the shelter or in their home, their service is invaluable. |

| Leadership
BOARD MEMBER:
Board members are elected each January. Positions include President,
President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Chairpersons for Fund
Raising, Membership, Publicity/PR, and Long-Term Planning. The Board
meets once a month.
OTHER OFFICERS:
These officers attend Board meetings in an advisory, non-voting
capacity: Historian, Parliamentarian, Corresponding Secretary, and
Executive Director.
SERVE ON A COMMITTEE:
- PUBLICITY/PR:
Volunteers may work to get news releases published or on the
air. Those who enjoy speaking in public may address various
civic, fraternal or church groups in the area, about our goals
and accomplishments, or visit local schools with our message
concerning pet care and the need for spay/neuter. We also submit
a picture and short blurb for a "Pet of the Week" in
the local paper.
- FUNDRAISING:
Volunteers are always needed to submit new ideas and to help
carry them out.
- LONG-TERM PLANNING:
The main duty of this committee at present is to secure grant
moneys to run the shelter, the feral cat program, and for future
growth. This is a vital job!
- FINANCE:
Work with the treasurer to set an annual budget and to track
donations and gifts.
- DONATION CANS:
Volunteers are needed to pick up donation cans around the lake
and in New Braunfels. Pick-up is usually done once a month.
- NEWSLETTER:
Those who enjoy writing may wish to contribute articles to the
quarterly newsletter. Volunteers are also needed to take the
completed newsletter to the printer, to put on mailing labels
and prepare for the post office's bulk mailing, and to bring the
newsletters to the post office.
