12. Simon Perkins Latson was born in 1813 in ,

Occupation was Carpenter. Was contracted to build the Stone Creek Baptist
Church in Twiggs County, Ga. Building stood for about 100 years until a tornado
destroyed it.
He migrated to Georgia where he saw Ann Phillips on a Sunday, working in a field.
She was a tall and very beautiful woman, a sharp contrast to Simon Perkins' short
but hansom features. After a brief courtship, they were married and became the
parents of eight children with six children surviving to adulthood. About 1852,
the Simon Perkins moved his family back to New York where he operated a grocery
business. His wife was not satisfied with life in New York and the business was
sold and they returned to Georgia.
The Latson family lived in Georgia until about 1860. With the threat of the Civil
War in the air, Simon Perkins moved his family to Paris, Lamar County, Texas.
Simon Perkins was serving in the Texas Guard during the Civil War when twin sons,
John B. and Jessy, were born 16 September 1862. A tragedy struck soon after the
twins were born. Ann had nursed Jesse to sleep and placed him along her side
while nursing John. Ann was exhausted and fell asleep and rolled over on Jessy,
smothering him to death.
After the Civil War, Simon Perkins moved his family to Titus County and settled
near Mt. Pleasant. He cleared the land of timber, built a fine home and had a
fine farm with good orchards. He continued to live there until all of the children
were married. The Latsons were looked upon as "big shots" because they
were store bought clothes. They were prosperous and lived well. Simon Perkins
was an aristocratic northerner and was not popular in th South after the Civil
War. Ann spun yarn to make material for family clothing until eleven o'clock
nightly. She was a very sweet person and was loved by everyone.
He was married to Anne Phillips in 1847 in , Twiggs, GA, USA.

census. Moved in with son Zachary Latson when they got older and lived in a
separate house behind Zachary. 13.
Anne Phillips was born about 1823 in , , GA, USA. She died about 1899/1900
in , Camp, Tx, USA. She appeared on the census 31 Sep 1850 in District 84, Twiggs,
